Fresh Picked Blueberries

Fresh picked blueberries are a great reminder of summer for me. Growing up on my parents farm, every summer we picked blueberries, and by picking blueberries that mostly meant eating blueberries! With about 10 blueberry bushes, there were plenty to go around. I stopped in at my parents yesterday to pick a few. I stood in one spot for no longer than 15 minutes and filled my container full! They are delicious, nothing better than fresh picked berries.

Now it's time to decide what to make, I am thinking blueberry cobbler.... YUM!

What is your favorite recipe with blueberries?

4 Miles

The gorgeous view from Roaring Run trail today.
My sister and I took the bikes for a ride, what a gorgeous day! 60 degrees and sunny!

Roaring Run has some gorgeous trails, this is one part of the trail that we usually choose. It is nice and level and it runs right along the river. Last summer we biked these trails a lot! My hubby even got me a pedometer for my bike after I was obsessed with figuring out how far we had gone on the trail. It's the little things! :-)

If you are from the area and want to check out this trails you can do so here.

My Mother In Law gave me this Hydrangea the summer before she passed, about 6 years ago. It only bloomed the year she gave it to me and one year in between now and then. I treasure it! This summer, I am thrilled that is blooming like crazy!

Do you have any favorite local trails? Local to you or local to me!  Please share!

Soaking Up Some Sun

Enjoying the day at camp!

Just a few pictures while G lays out and enjoys the sunshine! I had to include the last pic of the tree we planted about 6 years ago from the Arbor Day. It was only about a foot and a half tall when we planted it! So exciting to see it grow!

A Little Bit of Summer...

Sunshine & Pineapple Lemonade Punch

Sunshine & Pineapple Lemonade Punch

I hope you all had a fantastic Easter! We have been feeling so blessed this past week after enjoying the holiday with both sides of our families! We were able to host Easter at our house this year! Our Easter consisted of two separate dinners mostly considering the size of our families! We baked a ham for the earlier dinner and smoked a turkey for the later dinner. Everything turned out perfect!

All together we had 20 people at our house and it was great. My brother in law & sister snapped some fantastic photos for me that I couldn't wait to share with you! Spring is such a fun time with all the gorgeous flowers and bright spring colors. My Mom made an adorable centerpiece for our table with two of my favorite things, Marshmallow Peeps (bunnies) and Tulips! I added the picture below, isn't it great?

We have a family punch recipe but I was on the lookout for something a little different so we tried a new Pinterest find and loved it. I am still searching for something a little less sweet but loved it anyway! Feel free to share your favorite punch recipe.

Some of our table.... we had to set up an extra table as well!

Don't worry... it's supposed to look that dark!

Original recipe here

 Pineapple Lemonade Punch
I wasn't sure if the measurement was a cup of the powder mix or a cup of already prepared mix so I changed it a bit.

1/2 Cup powdered CountryTime Lemonade Mix
4 cans of Sprite/Sierra Mist or Gingerale
2 (46oz) cans of Pineapple Juice
4 Cups water
Lots of ice
2 Lemons sliced.

 Happy Spring!

Six Sisters Stuff Cookbook & Chocolate Chip Cookies with a Twist!

They really look yummy don't they?

Last week I counted the days for my new cookbook from Six Sister's Stuff to arrive! If you haven't checked out the blog, you can do so by clicking here

The recipes in this cookbook are hearty, some quick and easy, yummy home cooked foods. I love a good recipe from a friend or my Gram. A recipe that I know has been tried and true and will always turn out yummy, but once I run out of those great families recipes, I am searching online for more. I found this blog some time ago on Pinterest, my favorite place to search for recipes when I am ready to switch up from the classics!
Six Sister's and their families all trying to keep their families around the dinner table every night with a delicious, semi-simple, home cooked meal. You can sign up for their 4x4 Dinner Challenge right now too, get a free Ecookbook and join the fun!

Testing the cookbook included several members of my family! My sister (thanks Bri) and I tried the Chocolate Chip Banana Oatmeal cookies. (Of course I had to include my sister, this is the Six "Sisters" Cookbook right) and they turned out delicious! Super easy to make and even my Non-Banana eating hubby, loved them! :-) I didn't may not have mentioned the fact that there were bananas in them before he tried one. After the third one I let the cat out of the bag!

Since we are leaving for the beach tomorrow.... (YAY!!!) I was in a bit of a hurry to try a few great recipes but since I had already planned meals for the week before we left in hopes that we wouldn't have a full fridge before we leave... I needed an extra hand at another recipe! So my Mom (thanks Mom) decided to try another recipe! The Twice Baked Potato Casserole! Aside from her mistaking 5 pounds of potatoes for 5 potatoes and then adjusting the recipe later.... She said it was a great hearty cheesy potato casserole!

Taking a picture to send to Mom!

One last peak at the cookbook

Have you tried any of the Six Sister's recipes? Did you get the cookbook

High & Low Point & Family Dinners.

Family dinner is something that we sometimes don't hear a lot anymore. Too busy, not enough time to cook or plan, everyone running in ten directions throughout the day. Family dinners were always important in our home growing up! I have mentioned before about how no matter what activities we were all involved in during the day/week, our parents made sure we were all at the dinner table every night. It may not have always been a fancy gourmet meal but it was good home cooked dinner! :-) Maybe it was brownie stew, grilled chicken or Mom's spaghetti, either way it was a time in the day that we could all talk and reflect on the days events.

I am not even sure how it started but my Dad & Mom came up with a fun and quick (usually) way to recap the day for each person (usually about 8 of us if not more) around the table. Our high & low points. Usually Dad picked the person who would share first and around the table we went... and you couldn't use the same thing as the person before you! We loved it. Especially with a family as big as ours, all the time sometimes there may have been as many as 4 conversations going on at the same time. So this was the perfect time for everyone to have their own chance to share! Do you do this too?

Although it's just my hubby and I, we still carry on the "family" dinners. We eat together at the table every almost every night. I have been slowly trying to continue the family dinner tradition with our Sunday family dinners between both sides of our families! Usually at my parents there can be anywhere from 10 to 15 of us at Mom's 3 dining room tables!

Recently I stumbled on a post from Six Sisters Stuff (a fantastic blog that I have been following and I am waiting patiently for their new cookbook) and I felt as if I was reading my own words! How fantastic, another group of women and their families that also realize the importance of family dinners! Many of us struggle with the thought of what to make for dinner, and meal planning is sometimes a life saver for that! I have slowly been getting the hang of it! Whether you are making a fresh home cooked meal or something you cooked on the last freezer cooking day, it is still a meal at home with your family!

Ready to start having more family dinners? If you haven't checked out Six Sister's Stuff yet, now is your chance. Join in with us for the 4 x 4 family dinner challenge and enjoy a family dinner 4 nights a week each week for 4 weeks here.

I would love to hear about what your family does for dinners, do you eat at the table together a certain number of nights per week? Do you have a Sunday family dinner? Please share!

If you decide to join in the 4x4 Family Dinner Challenge, stop back and let me know how it's going for you! I would love to hear!

Disney's Planes in Theaters Aug. 9th

Who doesn't love a good Disney movie??

I just got the insider scoop on the new Disney movie Planes, in theaters August 9th, 2013! My niece & nephew (and us of course) were big fans of Cars! I have high expectations that this one will be just as good!

DANE COOK TAPPED TO VOICE DUSTY IN “DISNEY’S PLANES”
High-Flying Animated Comedy Adventure Soars into Theaters August 9, 2013

BURBANK, Calif. (February 28, 2013) – Dane Cook has been tapped to voice the lead character Dusty, a plane with high hopes in “Disney’s Planes.” Inspired by the world of “Cars” and directed by Disneytoon Studios veteran and aviation enthusiast Klay Hall (“King of the Hill,” “The Simpsons”), “Disney’s Planes” is an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure about Dusty’s dream of competing as a high-flying air racer—and his decidedly unfortunate fear of heights. The film takes off in theaters in 3D on Aug. 9, 2013.

“Dane Cook brings unmatched charisma and brilliant comedic timing and instincts to the character,” said Hall. “He gives Dusty a great edge.”
Cook is well known for his appearances on Comedy Central and HBO specials, and for his successful comedy albums. He recently guest starred on “Louie” opposite Louie C.K., and his film credits include starring roles in a host of films, including “My Best Friend’s Girl” opposite Kate Hudson, “Dan In Real Life” opposite Steve Carell, and “Mr. Brooks” opposite Kevin Costner. The actor/comedian just signed a deal with NBC Entertainment and Universal Television to develop a new project starring Cook.

The all-new story offers an exciting cast of characters and centers on Dusty’s high-flying dream. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing, so he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar. The film is produced by Traci Balthazor-Flynn and executive produced by John Lasseter. For more information, check out Disney.com/Planes, like us on Facebook: facebook.com/DisneyPlanes and follow us on Twitter: twitter.com/DisneyPictures.

Are you excited? What is your favorite Disney movie?

Lorax Puppet

Dr. Suess' birthday is fast approaching so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to create a fun Dr. Suess themed craft for my niece! I found this fantastic post with 100 Dr. Suess activities/crafts/projects and even recipes! I took some time searching for a great toddler activity! I found this fantastic Lorax Puppet craft and I knew it would be perfect! I would love to try a few more from that list! There are so many great ones for kids of all ages!

Miss M and I gathered our supplies (she loves opening the craft closet and collecting her supplies) and got started! This is a great craft but I can't take the credit for it! You can check out the original post from the First Class Teacher here

She was smiling normal and our dog Ginger walked over and M looked at her with this funny look!
Kind of like what are you doing???

Showing off her Lorax!

Have you made any Dr. Suess crafts with your kiddos? Feel free to share!
